Louis A. DeCaro Jr. holds a Ph.D. from New York University and serves as Professor of Church History at Alliance Theological Seminary (of Alliance University) in New York City. He is a biographer of Malcolm X and the abolitionist John Brown, the latter subject having occupied his scholarship for the last twenty years, including several books. His most recent works on Freedom’s Dawn: The Last Days of John Brown in Virginia (2015) and The Untold Story of Shields Green: The Life and Death of a Harper’s Ferry Raider (2020).
