My name is Cécile Dubois. I am French and keen on foreign languages.

I went for the very first time to a foreign country when I was 6 years old. We were spending our summer vacation in a Spanish campsite and within a couple days, without knowing a word of Spanish, I became friends with local children and learned my few first Spanish words. The magic of childhood! That first experience probably taught me one of the most important things in my life: learning a foreign language is not just one more learning, it’s a tool of communication, a way to meet people, a mean to open up on other cultures, onto the world.

From age 8 until 17 years old, I was in touch every year with German friends thanks to my village twinning with a German village. I also started travelling to England and Spain in my teen years and spent a year as exchange student in South Georgia, USA in my senior year. After my French baccalauréat, I kept on studying foreign languages at the University Nanterre – Paris X and earned a Bachelor Degree in Foreign languages applied to law and economics in German and English.

I then did training in a vocational center to become an assistant. I spent most of my career in that field. I am now working as the assistant of the Technical Coordination Dept. in a company of transport and storage of natural gas in the South West of France.

I have kept on practicing foreign languages since I left university, at work and/or on vacations: English, German, Spanish, but also Italian and my most recent language challenge is to learn Korean! So I know what it’s like to be a beginner but the most exciting to me is that there is always something new to learn!

And I definitely love to support people who are giving efforts to learn my native language: French!

In my free time, I enjoy practicing T'ai chi ch'üan, dancing (mainly couple dances: slow waltz, Viennese waltz, Cha Cha Cha, Argentine tango, Salsa, Bachata, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing), singing and acting : I performed my first amateur musical comedy show in July 2022.
