Jeffrey P. García, PhD

Jeffrey P. García is Associate Professor of New Testament and Second Temple Literature at Alliance University. 


He holds BA in Biblical and Theological Studies from Nyack College, where he studied with Dr. Steven Notley, and a PhD in Hebrew and Judaic Studies from New York University, where he studied under the direction of world-renowned Dead Sea Scrolls scholar Lawrence Schiffman. His speciality is early Jewish literature, the New Testament, and the literature of the Tannaim. He is the author of Understanding the Gospels as Ancient Jewish Literature (Jerusalem: Carta, 2018) and The Gospels in First-Century Judaea (Brill, 2016). Jeffrey has also contributed to the Biblical Archaeology ReviewLexham Bible Dictionary, and The Routledge Encyclopedia of Ancient Mediterranean Religions. He has worked as a teaching guide in Israel, Jordan, and Greece since 2012. Jeffrey is originally  from Spanish (East) Harlem, New York City and now lives in Baldwin, NY with his wife and family.
